What is Marcomms Ethics Pod?
Marcomms Ethics Pod is an audio project where students individually create podcast episodes on topics of ethical or moral issues associated with marketing communications. There are many issues and unethical or irresponsible practices that they choose from depending on what they feel passionate about. In the first year of this project running, this resulted in some impressive episodes that were both highly engaging and informative!
Some topics covered on this podcast:
- Targeting of vulnerable groups (e.g. advertising to children)
- Damaging depictions of vulnerable groups
- Stereotyping (e.g. gender, race/ethnicity, age, nations)
- Advertising of harmful products (e.g. tobacco, alcohol, junk food, gambling, marijuana)
- Offensive and harmful executions of advertising (e.g. shocking and graphic imagery, fear appeals, nudity and sexual references)
- Manipulation in political advertising
- Misleading or untruthful marketing communications
- Advertising regulation and the self-regulatory model
