Turnitin error – incorrect late/unsubmitted notice

Update 31/3/21:

We are aware that this blog post was created several months ago and that there have not been any updates for this issue. Unfortunately, this has not yet been resolved and we have not seen a timeline for when we might expect this to be resolved. We are still waiting for Turnitin to resolve this issue as we do not have access to the data or the way that the data is shared between the two vendors involved (Turnitin and Blackboard). We recognise that this may be causing additional stress, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

We still recommend that students follow the instructions below to ‘Launch’ Turnitin as that will lead to a window that does have accurate information and time stamps. 


There is a current issue that Turnitin are currently investigating related to incorrect notifications.

Students may either see a notice via email, activity stream, or directly through the Turnitin link that alerts them that they have not opened or submitted their assessment. 

If the student launches the Assignment Dashboard, they’ll see their submission and the time and date of submission. 

The notification and ‘unopened’ status are incorrect, and if students see their uploaded item and the time and date stamp then their item has been successfully submitted at that time.
