Join Dr. Kenneth Baxter from the University Archives in another video delving into Dundee’s past. This video looks again at the development of Dundee City Centre, but this time with a twist; we explore the development of Dundee as it didn’t happen! Even after the radical architectural changes of the city centre in the 1870s (explored in this previous video), there were still many concerns about the conditions and standards of the buildings and housing in Dundee. As a result, James Thomson delivered a report to the Council in August 1910 which proposed really radical architectural change for Dundee. Whilst many of these proposed changes were never implemented, this video explores what Dundee could have looked like, had Thomson’s vision been put into action.
