This is one of a series of photographs taken of the mills of Jute Industries Ltd. in the early 1920s. The company was formed in 1920 by the amalgamation of several Dundee firms including Thomas Bell & Sons, who owned Belmont Works. Belmont house, in front of the works belonged to the Bell family.  This site is now occupied by DJCAD. Hawkhill House, which is one of the few buildings in the picture to survive, is now home to Museum Services.
