We will be considering not only what has led the animals down a path leading towards extinction in the future, but what this future may look like. Between relentless and cruel poaching to destroying environments consequently creating habitats now incapable of providing and supporting their native species. Climate change is also having a significant impact on animals’ habitats, for example the arctic is suffering immensely leaving the habitats of polar bears insufficient with nowhere to live, hunt or rest consequently decreasing their rates of survival. Perhaps it’s not ‘what their future will look like?’ but ‘will they have one?’
How do you believe we as a society should tackle this issue?
I think it’s important that we call attention to the things that need to be addressed such as climate change to the people in power who can make the most difference. We need to vote wisely and vote for people who are going to care about issues such as these and actively do things to improve the situation. As individuals, we can support conservation efforts and organisations. One of the biggest changes we can make personally is to consume less or no animal products. If there is less or no demand for animal meat, less harmful fuels will be used damaging the planet and less forest land cut down to be used for this. There are a number of things society can do but largely right now I think we need to be calling attention to the problem before it’s too late.
