Our group project is on the topic of Overpopulation. In our project, we will discuss what is overpopulation, the causes and the solutions. Often when we hear about overpopulation the first thing we think of is China one-child policy we will be looking into that further as well. We have based our group scenario on this topic and if it was introduced into the UK and what the consequences would be. Would it be ethical? Would it even be lawful?
Do you think the use of a one-child policy could develop into other countries besides China and the UK?
I feel it will never happen in this day in age personally. However, it could work in any country I feel
Do you think that the lower recordings of births during the pandemic would be enough to delay policies such as this for any significant time?
Yeah I think so!
Do you think people are still in denial about the problem of overpopulation, and if so why is this the case?
Back when I was in my late teens (in 37 now) the Green Party had members with radical ideas about population control. Not so much these days though. Is population control inevitable?
Yes I think so, it definitely isn’t a well known problem in my opinion to be honest. A lot of people don’t know the affects it has on the world and people, for example a lot of people relate it to climate change which is true. However A lot of being including me probably didn’t think of child labour playing a part in this too. So I think people should be educated on it more as it is becoming a growing concern
Do you think within some countries that are suffering from overpopulation they would make the decision to make there citizens infertile to control overpopulation.
I don’t think, personally, it would get that far to make everyone infertile. But I do feel maybe after a certain amount of children it could definitely be enforced in some countries
Do you think that in order to prevent overpopulation we need to look at a specific example, do you think that one stands out as more important than the rest? If so do you think tackling one of the issues at a time will help balance the population?
Do you think that redistributing people to less populated areas (/countries) would be a valid strategy to battle overpopulation and the associated overstretching of resources? Or do you think this would just be abused by highly populated countries who would shift their problems onto others?
Great presentation guys! Do you feel then that overpopulation is a man made issue due to negligence ?
Looking at China and their policy of one child per family, do you think there could be other strategies implemented over other countries? Maybe not necessarily the same as China, but something that mirrors the effects?
If so, how strict do you think that could become?
