Our project is about Artificial Intelligence. We talk about what AI is, how it is used in the healthcare system currently, how it could be used in the future, and we also discuss any negatives and positives that may come out of it. We created our own survey to discover the public’s opinions and based our presentation on the results. Our report briefly talks about the history of AI and explains how AI can be used realistically in the future, but also focuses on the pros and cons of AI in healthcare. Will it be for the better? Or will it prove to be fatal?
Here is our powerpoint presentation.
How realistic is it that AI will not simply become another tool for the mega rich to further their wealth? Do you think that jobs will settle at an equilibrium, be gained, or will plummet?
(Your presentation doesn’t seem to be working by the way!)
It is realistic however if the NHS would buy this tool so there won’t be a barrier between the rich and the poor as we have access to “free” healthcare, it may not be the same in other countries where they do not have the same system.
I think the amount of jobs will plummet but it will be a slow decline while the tool is implemented into hospitals and clinics.
also the powerpoint should be working now!
Thank you for your comment.
You mentioned that jobs in AI could take over but is it possible that it is a job a large of majority of people would not be able to do? Also the idea that it could lead to a lack of other jobs, what will those who can’t get a job in this field be left with?
There are plenty of people looking for jobs in the computing sector in which the AI tool would be created so there will not be a lack of interest in the positions created. It will lead to a lack of surgeon positions and other such jobs but hopefully the healthcare industry will find retrain them or find something for them.
Thank for your comment!
Your presentation mentions a comment about patients needing empathy.
Do you think that in the future AI’s could develop some form of empathy or become realistic enough that patients would feel more comfortable using them for their healthcare needs?
You will not get empathy from a machine but it will be more likely that the AI is working behind the scenes such as surgery or research purposes in which they will not be interacting with patients emotionally much.
Thank you for your comment!
You mentioned AI in helping making the clinical decisions in healthcare.. the question I have is- in your opinion if the AI was to make a mistake on the diagnosis etc (or whatever decision it was assisting the doctor with) would it be a manufacturers fault? The AI itself? The person or group which implemented AI into assisting making the decisions? Or is it something else?
