The first session of the CreateSpace summer programme was held this week, looking at just a few of the plethora of free online design tools now available to help those with little or no experience in creating graphics for projects such as social media posts, event planning, and presentations. At the session the common design mechanisms, such as drag and drop, reusable elements and gridlines were demonstrated to show how you can build a design quickly from a template or start from a blank template of the appropriate dimensions by building up the layers of background, images and text. Lessons were also shared around the dangers of trying to fit your design into a template that isn’t suitable for your purpose and to always remember that although these tools are free for a basic package you might stray into the area of paid services if you use premium content elements or try to remove watermarks.
