Final Model
For my final model I chose to move away from 1:50 scale as it was starting to get more and more fiddly with the more detail I was putting in. I settled on using 1:20 scale which not only made my model a lot better but also made it easier to show my idea and the small details.
I chose to paint my model not only to hide the pen marks on the card but also to represent the concrete and texture of the building. Over all i’m happy that I scaled the model up as it allowed me to not only add more detail but also made the process less messy and stressful. I am very happy with the final look of my model and think it is one of the best models I’ve made this year.
A1 Presentation Board
For our board we were given a list of things that were to be on it;
– A final model of your concept.
– orthographic projections of your design
– An image of your final Design in context
– 100 words detailing how your concept reconnects its user to
nature.
– A selection of ten of your developmental models showing the
progression that led to your final prototype.
I started out by attempting to draw a section of my model, this was proving very difficult even with my models. After many failed attempts I decided to make a model of the section I was trying to draw, this was a very messy rough model but it helped me understand what it looked like in section. From this I found it a little easier to draw out the section and make it look right.
I wasn’t very happy with how my sections turned out and still wasn’t convinced that they were right so I went onto my SketchUp model and took section views from that, from there I printed them out and traced them onto tracing paper, This was when I realised that the sections I had in my sketchbook were not right and although I had tried my best on them I decided to use my SktechUp sections for my board.
Once I had my sketches I decided to take them onto Photoshop and Illustrator to make them truly black and white. I used Photoshop to change the colours to make the black lines pop, I then took it onto Illustrator and used the line trace tool to make the image truly black and white.
I was really pleased with how the images turned out so I decided to do this for all the orthographic images that were going onto my board. I also decided that I was going to do the same for my hero image and add some colour to it.
I was really chuffed with my hero image and how it looked once I had added people in to give the image a scale. However, once I had put it into my board I realised it look quite silly having the ladies feet and top of the tree cut off so I went back into Photoshop and altered the image to fix those.
The final thing I had to do for my board (apart from the 100 words) was get together the images of my model process, I decided to select the most important and significant images in order to not clutter the board. As well as my model development I chose to add in my sketch development of my models as well to give a more detailed representation of my process.
\After adding in some inspirational images and my 100 words I was finished with my A1 board. I was really happy with how it looked and how simple and to the point it was.
A3 Boards
As well as our A1 boards we were to make 2 A3 boards with more information on them. I chose to create a board dedicated to my research and one to my development process. These boards were done in a bit of a rush so really weren’t the best quality work.
When making the boards I really liked the idea of having the lines to represent the slits on my design, however, looking back it just makes the boards (especially the A3 ones) look very messy and they just took up half the page that could have been used for a bit of description and context to my images.
Final Exhibition
On Thursday 28th March we had an exhibition of our final work in our studio.
I really enjoyed displaying my work and being able to see everyone else’s work. This was the first time we had all properly seen each others work and not only did we get to see how the other interiors approached the brief but it also gave us the opportunity to have a look at what interaction and product had been up to whilst we were working on SHED.
*Edit*
Due to my boards being so rushed I decided to go back and completely redo them.
I am so happy that I took the extra time to redo my A3 boards, they look so much more professional and thought about than the previous boards. They also have a whole lot more information on them as well as my thought process. I was so happy with how these boards turned out that I decided to redo my A1 board as well.
I love the way my hero images turned out and how realistic they look, don’t get me wrong I liked the hero image on my last board but these are a lot more professional looking and thought about.
Stay tuned for my next blog which will be a reflection on this whole project.
