The Nature Disconnect – Product Design Board (4)

A2 Product Design Board

I used this board to demonstrate the six models and one final model to connect people to nature. I also showed different textures I have experimented with throughout my model making along with corresponding research.

Models

My final model: a Sundial. A device that tells the time of day when there is sunlight by the apparent position of the Sun in the sky.

To the left is a chair that is designed to go under grass/turf and be filled with soil. It’s cardboard frame will then decompose, becoming a little mound perfect for one to sit in.

I then looked to create a little cardboard texture model. It helped me explore different curves and the layers of the material. I used it to help find inspiration for any future models I may make.

I made a texture model from sewing together ring pulls of drinks cans. I got the inspiration from an Instagram page called “Bottletop” who make high-end recyclable bags from these materials.

To the left is a dream catcher, made from sticks, string and pine cones. It is a minimal, attractive wall hanging sometimes referred to as “Sacred Hoops,” Ojibwe dream catchers were traditionally used as talismans to protect sleeping people, usually children, from bad dreams and nightmares. Good dreams pass through and gently slide down the feathers to comfort the sleeper below.

This model is a compass kit for people who are out hiking or on a walk and need to find where to go. To make a compass, start by rubbing a needle against a magnet around 50 times in the same direction, which will magnetise it. Next, put theneedle on the little bit of bark. Place the bark into the dish once filled with water and watch as the needle aligns itself to point North and South.

The last model is a chair concept. It was a piece of sea glass found on the beach of Tentsmuir.
