Typography Project

The first of three posters displaying my process for the physical typography. I didn’t have a clue what my final sentence was going to be at this point so I was just experimenting with various words and materials. The “heal” in the apple was derived from the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”. The sawdust creating the word “making” was meant to indicate that things had been made from that wood. Finally the “burn” was etched into the soot in the window of my wood burning stove at home while there was a fire alight so it created this rather striking word.

“Hi, look don’t burn this mistake!!” Here is the final sentence constructed out of the best of the photos I’d taken. It’s a message against my constant perfectionist state of mind which criticizes and would happily burn a lot of my art work. It’s saying that even if it is a mistake, it doesn’t mean it deserves to be destroyed but instead a lot of good can come out of mistakes.
