Journey Map CV

The brief for this project was to make a visual journey map of my life, an updated CV and personal statement. I started this off by writing down the key things in my life which I would include in my journey map. I mainly included things which I felt had contributed to who I am as a person today. Things like key memories, difficult experiences and creative developments. I started to portray these things with quick sketches using biro and marker pens. This went well and I was able to quickly produce a load of drawings for the key things of my life. Below are a load of pages displaying these drawings in the correct order.

Personal Statement Update

The next step was to write a personal statement or at least update one. I submitted one for UCAS and so I went through it and made sure I was happy with everything in it. I changed a load of things and compressed it. This didn’t take me too long but I managed to make it a lot more relevant to a future career in design. Below is a link to the final draft. I had the original checked by various people including my mum who’s an English teacher so the grammar is fairly good.

Updated CV

The next thing to do was to update by CV which hadn’t been done since I was 15 so it was about time.I looked at the tips and advice on the Dundee CV writing page and then found a template online. I went through everything and kept in mind to keep it relevant to a future career in design. The website at the end tried to get me to pay for it so I just took a screenshot instead which is below so the quality might not be the best.

Poster Presentation

Last but not least is the poster presentation, this section was slightly over the deadline because the Adobe suit does not run on my laptop because the graphics aren’t good enough so I had to wait until I could get access to the computers in the university. I started with an A3 layout and planned out where to place things. I felt it was important for the visual journey to be the dominant thing in the page because it kind of gives everything else context if that makes sense. The rest of the page will also be very text based so by having a majority of it in picture format, it helps to make it more interesting. I placed a little design in the top of the page as a kind of border although I think its probably a little too complex for what this is meant to be. You can see this below as well as the whole story board laid out in InDesign.

I wasn’t very happy with the overall layout of the story because I realised everything was going to be a very tight fit if I left it on one page. I then spread all the images out over the page with the plan of dedicating a whole page to the CV and personal statement as to give it more room.
