Explaining research objectives and outcomes are arguably more effective with visual information to support them. For this research into student experience, an accurate representation of the cardiac ward at Ninewells was illustrated, highlighting the areas of importance whilst maintaining background elements for orientation.
The illustrations work as a series – the first highlights the overall layout of the ward. Areas of significance and the challenges faced working in a small space with both students and NHS staff are also highlighted. As a set, the series highlights Dr Gupta’s findings and enables listeners/viewers of this research project to understand the key findings at a detailed level, as if they had visited the ward themselves.

Student’s have very little space to store their belongings during their placement on the ward – resulting in bags being stored in the small doctor’s room. This room was often full of both students and staff.
