Reading Time: < 1 minutes

For our 4th seminar on Thursday 19 October at 15:00hrs (BST), we welcome Mary Jacob from Aberystwyth University.

Developing resilience in an ever-changing AI landscape: In the current climate of AI, educators are challenged to find a comfortable territory somewhere between apocalyptic panic and uncritical enthusiasm. We need to manage risks while taking advantage of the benefits AI offers us. This requires critical thinking and entails becoming comfortable navigating in a nuanced zone where there are no black-and-white answers to the questions we ask. Mary will be exploring how can we support students in learning effectively and enable them to use AI in an ethical manner. She will also be looking at how we as educators can develop our own AI literacy so that we can teach these skills to our students.

Mary Jacob is a lecturer at Aberystwyth University, where she coordinates the Generative AI Working Group (see Generative AI for resources and guidance). Her primary responsibility is leading the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education. She curates the Weekly Resource Roundup of events and publications about learning and teaching. She holds SFSEDA, SFHEA, PGCTHE, and CMALT, and posts on the platform formerly known as Twitter as Mary Jacob L&T.
