In this following video for #WellTogether week, University Archivist Jan Merchant talks us through the Big Back Garden Project. The Big Back Garden Project is a project run by the Archive Services at the University of Dundee with Morgan Academy S3 pupils. It looks at the history of Baxter Park and its role on the health and wellbeing of the people of Dundee with the use of archive materials on Baxter Park from the University Archives, Dundee City Archives and the Dundee Local History Centre. The result of the project has been a series of narratives which look at different events along the park’s long history. Running through all of these narratives is how people of Dundee could escape to the park to enjoy the fresh air, the sport and entertainment that it has always provided. Pupils narratives will soon be recorded and made available via QR codes plaques that will be attached to benches around the park, but in the meantime, we can enjoy this wonderful video from Jan as she talks us through the project, the materials used and the vibrant history of Baxter Park!
We would like to thank the Welcome Trust and the University of Dundee School of Life Sciences for awarding Public Engagement Seed Funding in support of the Big Back Garden project.
