While the University’s museums and galleries are temporarily closed due to the coronavirus emergency, we’re sharing more of our collections online. This is the latest in a series of films in which museum curator Matthew Jarron tells the stories behind some of our most interesting objects and artworks. In this video we look at the amazing micro-organisms which inspired D’Arcy Thompson’s interest in applying mathematics to biology. The film features images from the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum; photomicrographs taken from D’Arcy’s original slides by Dr Alan Prescott, School of Life Sciences; as well as images from the University of Dundee, the University of St Andrews Museum Collections and private collections. You can find out more about our collections at www.dundee.ac.uk/museum.

  1. Dear Matthew, Enjoyed the video on Foraminifera. I’m not a self publicist but could you please acknowledge my images on the credits as we all have to justify our existence in these hard times! Hope you are well. Cheers Alan
